Gaza Herald – The Gaza Center for Human Rights (GCHR) warned on Saturday that Israeli occupation forces are carrying out a systematic campaign to destroy the remaining residential areas across the Gaza Strip, particularly in central Gaza, through forced evacuations followed by deliberate bombardment of already-damaged homes.
In a statement, the Center said Israeli occupation forces have increasingly relied on phone calls ordering families to evacuate buildings before bombing and leveling them, despite many of those structures already being partially destroyed and no longer habitable. According to GCHR, the policy is intensifying mass displacement and worsening the shelter crisis faced by hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.
The rights group said it documented extensive destruction between May 20 and May 22 in the Nuseirat, al-Bureij, and al-Maghazi refugee camps after residents received evacuation calls from the Israeli army. It argued that the pattern demonstrates a deliberate effort not merely to target military sites but to eliminate what remains of Gaza’s civilian residential environment and make entire areas unlivable.
GCHR stated that its field teams recorded at least twelve separate bombing attacks this month that followed evacuation warnings, describing the tactic as part of a long-standing Israeli policy that has re-emerged in a more systematic and destructive form during the ongoing genocide on Gaza.
According to the organization, around 90% of buildings across Gaza have already been destroyed or damaged during the genocide, forcing nearly two million Palestinians to live in overcrowded tents, beside the rubble of their homes, or inside unsafe and collapsing structures. The Center warned that continued attacks on remaining housing areas point to a broader strategy aimed at shrinking the limited space where civilians can still survive.
The rights group stressed that issuing evacuation warnings before attacks does not absolve Israel of legal responsibility under international humanitarian law. It called on the international community to urgently intervene to halt attacks on civilian homes, provide real protection for Gaza’s population, and pressure Israel to allow the entry of emergency shelter materials and reconstruction supplies needed for displaced families.
