Gaza Herald – The Israeli military announced on Sunday the imposition of a comprehensive closure on the West Bank and Gaza Strip for Tuesday, coinciding with the Knesset elections. This decision comes amid ongoing escalation in the region.
According to Hebrew sources, the army decided to establish a complete security cordon across both territories throughout the election day. Additionally, Palestinian workers are prohibited from entering settlements in the West Bank and the Jordan Valley on Sunday and Monday.
The military began extensive maneuvers in central and northern areas on Sunday, involving several combat units and the Air Force. These operations are scheduled to continue until Monday. The army claimed the drills aim to enhance operational readiness and practice various scenarios, including surprise attacks and airborne or ground infiltration tactics.
These measures coincide with heightened alert levels and the deployment of reinforcements across multiple fronts. This follows an expansion of raids and arrests throughout the occupied West Bank during the recent weekend.
The military reported conducting operations in approximately 40 villages and 400 sites, resulting in the arrest of nearly 40 Palestinians. Operations were concentrated in the Hebron governorate and Halhul town to the north, where forces arrested about 20 individuals.
Hebron remains under siege for the third consecutive day. Forces continue to raid neighborhoods, search homes, and force families to evacuate their residences. Infrastructure damage includes the demolition of structures and the closure of roads and entrances.
The closure and military exercises occur amidst sustained escalation in the West Bank. Security procedures at checkpoints and roads have been tightened, while the blockade on Hebron and its surroundings persists without relief.
