Gaza’s sole oxygen generation plant at risk of shutdown, Health Ministry warns

Gaza Herald – The Palestinian Ministry of Health has warned that the only operational oxygen generation plant serving the Gaza and northern governorates is at risk of shutting down, threatening the supply of medical oxygen to patients, particularly those with chronic illnesses, as well as healthcare institutions that rely on it for essential medical services.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ministry said the plant is suffering from repeated breakdowns due to heavy operational pressure and prolonged running hours, in the absence of adequate alternative systems. It added that this situation could lead to a disruption in medical oxygen supplies, placing patients’ lives in danger.

The ministry cautioned that the escalating risk points toward an imminent humanitarian catastrophe, especially as oxygen demand continues to rise across hospitals and medical centers.

It urged all relevant authorities and international organizations to urgently intervene to supply additional oxygen generation units and ensure the continuity of oxygen provision to healthcare facilities in order to safeguard patients’ lives and maintain essential medical services.
