Gaza Municipality Warns of Infrastructure Collapse as Winter Storms Hit a City Shattered by Genocide

Gaza Herald – Gaza Municipality says it is battling severe winter storms with almost no heavy machinery, no pipes or cement, and a stormwater network destroyed by Israel’s ongoing genocide. The devastation has crippled drainage systems and sewage facilities, resulting in rainwater pools and hazardous overflows across multiple neighborhoods.

The municipality reports that the destruction of wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations has left entire networks out of service, triggering flooding in low-lying districts and overwhelming displacement shelters already struggling with mass internal displacement. Teams worked through the storm, but the absence of equipment and materials made an effective response nearly impossible.

Officials are urgently calling on the international community to provide heavy machinery and emergency equipment to reopen roads, restore minimal drainage capacity, and prevent deadly flooding in shelters and residential areas as more storms approach.
