Gaza: Reconstruction Suspended Between Israeli Conditions, Political Deadlock

Gaza Herald – Amid the continued Israeli genocide on the Gaza Strip, a widening gap is emerging between international proposals aimed at ending the genocide and rebuilding the territory and the realities imposed on the ground by Israeli occupation, leaving any political progress tied to increasingly complex conditions.

A new US-backed plan links Gaza’s reconstruction to the disarmament of Palestinian resistance groups, relying on billions in international and Gulf funding. However, it faces firm rejection from Palestinian factions, alongside Israeli insistence on using reconstruction as a tool of political and security leverage.

The diplomatic track led by the so-called “Peace Council” is also facing a clear impasse, as it lacks effective leverage over the Israeli government, which continues attacks on Gaza while maintaining strict restrictions on humanitarian aid despite existing ceasefire arrangements.

On the ground, Israeli strikes and attacks continue across multiple areas of the Strip, alongside a rising toll of casualties since repeated violations of the ceasefire began, with continued targeting of residential areas and displacement shelters.

Rights and medical reports further indicate that Israeli occupation forces have occupied and attacked inside Gaza, restricting movement across more than half of the territory, deepening the humanitarian crisis, and further limiting prospects for recovery.

At the same time, humanitarian assistance remains far below required levels, with ongoing restrictions on fuel, medical supplies, and shelter materials, in addition to the limited operation of the Rafah crossing, which continues to obstruct the evacuation of patients and the wounded.

Between stalled diplomacy and attacks, Gaza’s reconstruction remains effectively postponed, trapped between Israeli demands and political conditions, while the civilian population continues to bear the brunt of a deepening humanitarian collapse with no clear path toward resolution.
