Gaza Herald – Over 2.4 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are marking Eid al-Fitr under unprecedented humanitarian conditions, facing severe hardships due to the ongoing blockade and the collapse of basic life essentials, according to the Palestinian Government Media Office.
The report highlights that this year’s Eid is overshadowed by widespread destruction, forced displacement, and a lack of basic necessities such as food, water, and medicine, describing a deliberate policy of deprivation that prevents families from meeting even essential needs, including holiday supplies for children.
Since the ceasefire took effect on 10 October 2025 until 18 March 2026, government sources documented 2,073 violations: 750 incidents of gunfire, 87 military incursions into residential areas, 973 airstrikes and attacks, and 263 demolitions of homes and buildings.
These violations resulted in 677 Palestinian deaths, including 305 children, women, and the elderly, with civilians accounting for 99% of casualties. In addition, 1,813 were injured, mostly from the same vulnerable groups, all targeted within residential areas, away from border lines. The report also noted 50 Palestinians were detained inside residential neighborhoods, described as being abducted away from the borders.
Between 2-28 February 2026, only 1,934 people traveled through Rafah crossing out of the expected 5,400 (approximately 35%), including 1,075 departures mostly for patients and companions, and 859 returns to Gaza.
Regarding aid, 38,358 trucks of humanitarian, commercial, and fuel supplies entered Gaza out of an expected 94,800, reflecting a 40% fulfillment rate, signaling continued shortages of essential goods. The report also noted the renewed closure of Rafah without justification, alongside the non-entry of heavy machinery for debris removal, medical supplies and medicines, shelter materials including tents and mobile homes, and the failure to operate the electricity generation station.
The Government Media Office warned that these violations constitute a dangerous circumvention of the ceasefire agreement, enforcing a reality of subjugation and deprivation. Israel was held fully responsible for the ongoing humanitarian deterioration and the human and material losses.
The report called on the United States, mediators, guarantor parties, the United Nations, and the international community to uphold their legal and ethical responsibilities, enforce full compliance with the agreement, ensure civilian protection, and guarantee the safe and immediate delivery of aid, fuel, and shelter materials to mitigate Gaza’s escalating humanitarian disaster.
