UN Warns Continued Israeli Restrictions Threaten Humanitarian Work in Gaza

Gaza Herald – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) warned on Friday that ongoing violence, displacement, and Israeli-imposed restrictions on humanitarian operations were severely hampering the delivery of essential aid to the people of Gaza.

The warning came more than four months after a ceasefire took effect on October 10, 2025, which has since been repeatedly violated by Israeli forces. UNRWA stressed the urgent need for a “real and sustainable ceasefire,” noting that the truce remains fragile. Reports indicated that since the ceasefire, 601 Palestinians had been killed and 1,607 injured.

In response to ongoing targeting campaigns against the agency, UNRWA reiterated that it was established by the UN General Assembly with a clear humanitarian and developmental mandate: to provide assistance and protection to Palestinian refugees until a just and lasting solution to their plight is reached.

The agency highlighted the importance of continuing its work despite attempts by Israel and the U.S. to undermine UNRWA, which has long served as a critical lifeline for besieged Palestinians. UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini had previously warned that dismantling the agency had become an objective of Israel’s ongoing campaign in Gaza.

UNRWA reaffirmed its commitment to provide humanitarian assistance and protection, emphasizing that its mission must continue until a sustainable resolution is achieved. The agency’s statement underscored the central role it plays in ensuring basic services and safeguarding the welfare of nearly two million Palestinians living under extreme conditions.

Failure to uphold these operations, the statement warned, would deepen the humanitarian crisis and further imperil the survival and dignity of Gaza’s population.
