Gaza Herald – The Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law said the death toll of the Gaza genocide could surpass 200,000, citing estimates that the territory’s population had declined by more than 10% since October 2023 due to sustained military operations and widespread destruction.
Stuart Casey-Maslen, head of the Academy’s project on international humanitarian law, said officially reported figures likely did not capture the full scale of human losses, pointing to the possibility that large numbers of victims remained buried under rubble and had not been recovered or formally documented.
He stressed that while the estimates required independent verification, the demographic decline signaled a humanitarian catastrophe that could far exceed publicly released figures.
The Academy also noted that reconstruction would require years of sustained effort and billions of dollars in investment, given the extensive damage to infrastructure, homes, and essential facilities. Military operations have continued despite the ceasefire, exacerbating shortages of food, water, shelter, and medical services.
Separately, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that the confirmed toll since October 8, 2023, had reached 72,045 killed and 171,686 injured. Over the past 24 hours, hospitals received eight bodies, including three recovered from under rubble, and treated 20 wounded.
The ministry added that ceasefire violations since October 10, 2025, had resulted in 591 killed and 1,578 injuries, with additional victims still trapped beneath debris.
