1,700 Palestinians Lose Eyes in Gaza Amid Ongoing Genocide

Gaza Herald – The Gaza Human Rights Centre reports that at least 1,700 Palestinians have lost their eyes over 25 months of the Israeli occupation’s genocidal assault on the Gaza Strip, with about 5,000 more at risk of total or partial blindness due to lack of treatment.

The centre said the surge in eye injuries stems from direct targeting by occupation forces, including sniper fire aimed at civilians’ eyes, as well as blast wounds from shelling and munitions that scatter shrapnel. It also highlighted that essential eye care infrastructure, equipment, and medicines remain blocked from entering Gaza, worsening conditions and pushing many toward permanent vision loss.

Medical staff reported that eye injuries account for a significant portion of genocide wounds, with a large percentage of women, men, and children facing lifelong disability. The rights group said the lack of surgical capacity, destroyed facilities, and closed crossings have made treatment nearly impossible, deepening the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the Israeli occupation’s continued genocidal campaign.
