Gaza Herald- Despite the availability of essential goods and people’s ability to afford them, living conditions in Gaza continue to deteriorate, and many families are not able to afford the prices of meat and chicken, said the Deputy Special Coordinator for the United Nations Peace Process Ramez Al-Akbarov.
Speaking before the Security Council on Monday, Al-Akbarov said that the United Nations and its partners are struggling to deliver essential shelter supplies, including tents and blankets, and urged the international community to pressure Israel to end the delays hindering the provision of aid.
During a visit last week, the UN official warned that the assault threatens the continuation of the ceasefire in Gaza, calling on all parties to pressure Israel to comply with the ceasefire’s conditions.
He stressed that Israel must allow aid through, warning that current decisions will decide the fate of the ceasefire.
He called for the full implementation of the first phase and swift agreement on the next steps of the ceasefire.
The UN official highlighted that the ceasefire has largely held, though recent Israeli airstrikes have caused many casualties and widespread damage.
Al-Akbarov warned that settlement expansion and related violence in the West Bank are reaching alarming levels.
The spokesperson stressed that settler violence has surged to record levels, with the UN noting eight daily attacks during last October’s olive harvest.
The UN official said the attacks harmed farmers and destroyed livelihoods, with Israeli forces frequently failing to act.
