Rights Group: Ben-Gvir Statements Signal Expansion of Execution Policy Against Gaza Detainees

Gaza Herald – The Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Defense strongly condemned remarks by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, suggesting that up to 80% of detainees could be subject to execution laws, including those labeled as “elite units,” saying this reflects a clear shift toward expanding the scope of targeting rather than limiting it.

The center noted that Israeli authorities continue to classify a large number of Gaza detainees, estimated at around 1,450, as “elite fighters,” in what it described as an effort to create a legal framework for applying such laws to them.

It added that these statements reveal a premeditated intention to execute a large number of detainees under legal cover, undermining previous claims that the law would be limited or difficult to implement.

According to the center, this is not conventional legislation but rather a policy designed to legitimize systematic killings inside detention camps, within a broader approach aimed at the physical elimination of detainees.
