Gaza Herald – Palestinian detainees from Gaza held in Israeli-run Ramla and Negev prisons are enduring increasingly harsh detention conditions, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office, which cited intensified restrictions and punitive measures inside prison sections.
In a statement released Thursday, the office said Israeli prison authorities continue to threaten detainees against disclosing details of their treatment during family or legal visits. Some prisoners are reportedly kept blindfolded for extended hours each day, except during shower time and limited outdoor breaks.
Detainees have also complained about the absence of clocks inside prison sections, leaving them unable to track time or determine the hours of suhoor and iftar during the holy month of Ramadan.
In Negev prison, the office reported worsening medical neglect, reduced food portions, and deteriorating living standards. Administrative detention orders, which allow imprisonment without formal charges, are reportedly being renewed without a clear time limit.
Several detainees are said to be suffering from alarming health conditions due to inadequate medical care. Some face untreated infections and chronic illnesses, while others are experiencing skin diseases requiring urgent follow-up.
Visits have also documented noticeable weight loss among some prisoners, reflecting insufficient nutrition, in addition to limited cleaning supplies that fall short amid overcrowded cells.
Despite the difficult conditions, the office stated that detainees are maintaining morale and observing Ramadan through prayer and worship. It held Israeli prison authorities fully responsible for their safety and called on international human rights and humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene, monitor detention conditions, and work toward improving living standards and securing the release of the sick, elderly, and those held under administrative detention.
