Two-Thirds of Essential Medical Supplies Depleted: Gaza’s Health System on the Brink of Collapse

Gaza Herald- The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza warned on Saturday of an imminent collapse of the healthcare system in the Strip. The remaining functional hospitals are struggling to provide even the bare minimum of services, effectively turning into waiting rooms for thousands of patients and wounded individuals facing uncertain fates.

In a press release, the ministry described the catastrophic impact of what it called a “healthcare genocide,” saying that providing care has become a daily miracle. It stressed how the healthcare system is grappling with immense challenges, particularly in restoring specialized medical services that have been widely disrupted.

According to the ministry, reaching “zero stock” levels of medicines and medical supplies has turned even basic painkillers into a luxury patients cannot access—despite being at constant risk of death. They reported that 46% of essential medicines have completely run out, 66% of medical consumables are depleted, and 84% of laboratory and blood bank supplies are no longer available.

Cancer treatment, hematology, surgeries, operations, intensive care, and primary healthcare services are among the most severely affected, the ministry added.

The limited quantities of medicine that do reach Gaza’s hospitals are nowhere near sufficient to meet actual needs. The ministry emphasized that temporary or emergency solutions will only worsen the situation in the long run.

It renewed its urgent call to all concerned parties for immediate intervention and support to replenish medication stocks and prevent a total collapse of Gaza’s health system.

Currently, nearly 2.4 million Palestinians, including 1.5 million displaced people, are enduring catastrophic humanitarian conditions in Gaza amid a two-year-long war of annihilation led by Israel—with U.S. backing—since October 8, 2023. The war has intentionally targeted healthcare infrastructure and basic services, leaving behind widespread destruction and unbearable living conditions.

Despite a ceasefire that went into effect on October 10, 2025, Israel continues to block the agreed-upon amounts of humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, exacerbating the humanitarian disaster and further deteriorating living conditions.
