Gaza Herald – Palestinian families in Gaza continue to endure extreme winter conditions, struggling daily to survive amid freezing temperatures, scarce shelter, and limited access to necessities. Tens of thousands of people remain dependent on fragile tents and temporary housing that offer little protection from the cold.
UN OCHA teams documented families facing severe hardships, with children and the elderly most at risk. While 11 children have tragically died from cold exposure since the season began, their deaths underscore a much broader crisis affecting hundreds of thousands who live without adequate heat, water, or medical support.
The UN has stressed the urgent need for durable housing and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian and commercial aid to prevent further suffering. Families report ongoing battles with hypothermia, inadequate blankets, and overcrowded shelters, highlighting the daily struggle for survival in Gaza.
Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, warned that without immediate international intervention and safe access for aid workers, countless more families, especially children, will face life-threatening conditions, making the humanitarian situation in Gaza increasingly dire.
