UN Reports 11 Children Freeze to Death in Gaza Since Winter Began

Gaza Herald – The United Nations confirmed that 11 children in Gaza have died from cold exposure since the start of winter, highlighting the severe humanitarian crisis faced by Palestinian families. Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, delivered the update during a press briefing in New York on Friday.

Haq said UN OCHA teams documented families struggling to survive extreme winter conditions. Another child died this week, raising the total fatalities to 11, despite efforts to provide temporary shelter.

Since October, tens of thousands of tents were distributed to more than half a million people, yet these measures offered only limited protection against the harsh winter weather. The UN stressed the urgent need for durable housing solutions to prevent further child deaths.

Haq warned that without unrestricted humanitarian aid and effective shelter, more children remain at grave risk. He called on all relevant authorities to ensure safe access for relief operations to protect Gaza’s most vulnerable.
