Gaza Herald – The Executive Unit for Managing Displacement Camps in Yemen announced that approximately 147,000 individuals have fled their homes and moved to eight different provinces. This displacement occurred between the start of September and the 18th day of the month, driven by the latest military escalation within the country.
In a statement, the Unit documented the movement of 21,583 families, comprising a total of 146,943 persons during the period from September 1 to September 18, 2026. The organization attributed this surge to military intensification, deteriorating security conditions, and increasing risks faced by civilians.
The report identified the affected governorates as Taiz, Lahj, Aden, Abyan, Shabwa, Al Hudaydah, Hadhramaut, and Al Mahrah. According to the data, Taiz province received the highest number of displaced persons, recording 11,534 families totaling 80,792 individuals distributed across fifteen districts.
Aden province recorded the arrival of 1,622 families, consisting of 7,162 people. Most of these families settled with host families in various districts. Meanwhile, 1,471 families totaling 10,297 people moved to the Haydan and Khokha districts in Al Hudaydah province.
Additionally, 1,278 families amounting to 8,946 individuals relocated to Abyan province. Smaller numbers were observed in Hadhramaut with 110 families, Al Mahrah with 70 families, and Shabwa with 26 families.
The government Unit warned that most displaced families are enduring harsh living conditions due to the loss of homes, livelihoods, and property. They highlighted growing needs for emergency shelter, food, drinking water, sanitation, healthcare, and protection services.
The Unit called on international and local organizations to provide urgent, life-saving assistance to the displaced population. It cautioned that delayed responses could exacerbate the crisis and increase pressure on host communities.
This rise in displacement coincides with widespread military escalation along Yemen’s western coast and areas within Taiz province. These developments involved Houthi advances and their control over positions previously held by government forces.
Fighting continues on fronts in Taiz, Marib, Al Jawf, Al Bayda, and Lahj. This constitutes the broadest military escalation since July 2026, following a relative calm that succeeded the April 2022 truce.
