In yet another deliberate act of violence aimed at crushing Gaza’s survival infrastructure, an Israeli attack targeted a clearly marked bus in Gaza City on Monday. The vehicle was carrying 10 staff members from MĂ©decins Sans Frontières (MSF), leaving one humanitarian worker injured and damaging the bus. Despite the massive, unmistakable MSF logo displayed on its roof, the vehicle was given no immunity from the occupation’s relentless targeting of life-saving operations.
For MSF, this assault is not an anomaly; it is a calculated feature of a campaign aimed at eliminating all forms of relief and life support for Palestinians in Gaza. Since the launch of the genocide, the occupation forces have killed 15 MSF personnel, part of a systematic pattern of airstrikes, point-blank shootings, detentions, and violent disruptions of medical convoys. This continuous targeting exposes the myth of designated “safe zones” and deconfliction protocols, demonstrating that no emblem, no flag, and no international law offers protection under an occupation determined to dismantle Palestinian society.

Emblems Under Fire: The Destruction of Humanitarian Protection
The targeted bus in Gaza City was explicitly identified with the MSF logo, yet it became the latest target in a documented policy of ignoring basic international protections.
Humanitarian organizations rely on deconfliction mechanisms, sharing exact GPS coordinates and vehicle markings with occupation forces, to ensure safe passage. The repeated shelling and bombardment of these clearly marked teams prove that these mechanisms are treated with total contempt. By striking identifiable medical and aid vehicles, the occupation aims to terrorize humanitarian personnel, force international organizations to abandon their posts, and accelerate the complete collapse of Gaza’s healthcare and relief networks.
Evacuation Convoys Transformed into Killing Grounds
The pattern of deliberate targeting was made clear early in the conflict. In November 2023, an MSF evacuation convoy carrying personnel and their families from northern Gaza came under direct Israeli attack.
The convoy was following a route specified by the Israeli military after coordinating movement through official channels. When occupation forces blocked the convoy at the Wadi Gaza checkpoint, the vehicles were forced to turn back toward their premises. On the return route, two MSF vehicles were struck. Alaa Al-Shawa, a volunteer nurse, was killed instantly, and another individual died shortly after from untreatable injuries.
Days later, occupation forces directly targeted Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza, killing two MSF doctors, Dr. Mahmoud Abu Nujaila and Dr. Ahmad Al Sahar, alongside another physician. The facility’s coordinates and the presence of medical staff had been repeatedly shared with Israeli authorities.
No Refuge: Attacks on Shelters and Families
The targeting extends far beyond vehicles and hospitals; it invades the safe havens where aid workers and their families attempt to take shelter.
On January 8, 2024, Israeli forces struck an MSF shelter in Khan Younis that housed over 100 staff members and their families. A five-year-old girl, the daughter of an MSF employee, was critically injured and died the following day. MSF had explicitly informed the Israeli military that the facility was being used to shelter humanitarian personnel. No evacuation warnings were given before the strike.
Weeks later, another marked MSF shelter in Al-Mawasi, an area falsely designated by occupation authorities as a “safe humanitarian zone”, was shelled. Two family members of an MSF worker were killed, and six others were wounded, primarily women and children. Heavy gunfire riddling the walls showed that these facilities were targeted intentionally, stripping aid workers of any remaining sense of safety.
15 Victims: The Cost Borne by Palestinian Healthcare Workers
The vast majority of MSF’s workforce in Gaza consists of native Palestinian doctors, nurses, and logistics personnel who risk their lives daily to serve their community.
By October 2025, the martyr toll among MSF staff had reached 15. On October 2, an Israeli attack targeted MSF employee Omar Hayek and four colleagues as they stood wearing marked MSF high-visibility vests, waiting for transport to the organization’s field hospital in Deir Al-Balah. Days later, Abed El Hameed Qaradaya succumbed to injuries sustained in the same strike.
These deaths are not collateral damage; they reflect an intentional assault on the human capacity of Gaza’s medical sector. Despite repeated calls from MSF for independent international investigations into the deliberate killing of its staff, no accountability has been permitted by the occupation or its Western allies.
A Systematic Campaign Against Human Survival
MSF has documented over 50 distinct violent incidents directly targeting its medical staff, shelters, and operations between October 2023 and September 2025. Over this period, staff and patients were forcibly evacuated from 24 different health facilities due to Israeli bombardment and military raids.
Every strike on a convoy prevents emergency care from reaching the wounded. Every raid on a shelter forces displaced families into further danger. Every destroyed medical center reduces the chance of survival for sick and injured Palestinians.
Weaponizing Violence Against Aid Infrastructure
The latest attack on the MSF bus in Gaza City reinforces a clear reality: the occupation considers the entire infrastructure of survival in Gaza a target.
By assaulting clearly marked humanitarian vehicles, the occupation aims to render the entire Gaza Strip unlivable, severing the population from the last remaining threads of medical assistance and basic aid. The attack on MSF personnel is an assault on every Palestinian patient waiting for care and every family relying on medical relief to stay alive. In Gaza, the white flag and the red cross or crescent are not protected by international law; they are treated as targets by an occupation seeking the total destruction of Palestinian life and resistance.
