Gaza Herald – For the past ten months, Palestinian patient Abdullah Al-Yazji has endured a daily battle with pain and disability after a severe war-related injury dramatically changed the course of his life, robbing him of the ability to stand or move independently.
Abdullah was struck by an explosive bullet that severed his sciatic nerve and caused extensive damage to his femur. Doctors say he urgently requires a hip replacement surgery, but the specialized treatment he needs is unavailable inside Gaza due to the collapse of the healthcare system and the severe shortage of medical resources.
Medical professionals warn that continued delays could result in irreversible nerve damage and permanent complications that may become impossible to treat in the future.
Today, Abdullah is completely bedridden, unable to walk or stand as his condition continues to deteriorate. Although he has obtained a medical referral for treatment abroad, he remains trapped in Gaza awaiting permission to travel. With every passing day, his chances of regaining mobility diminish.
His family is appealing to humanitarian organizations and relevant authorities to intervene urgently and facilitate his evacuation before the delay turns into a lifelong disability.
Tamer Al-Sharif: A Spinal Injury That Changed Everything
Another critically injured patient, Tamer Akram Al-Sharif, is facing a similarly devastating reality after suffering a severe injury during the war.
A piece of shrapnel became lodged in his spinal column, causing extensive damage to his neck and spinal cord and leaving him completely paralyzed. Doctors have determined that he urgently requires complex bone and tendon reconstruction surgeries that are not available within Gaza.
Despite receiving an official medical referral from the Ministry of Health, including full treatment coverage dated July 15, 2025, Tamer has been unable to leave the territory for the specialized care he desperately needs.
He says his pain intensifies with each passing day while his chances of recovering any degree of physical function continue to fade.
Tamer is calling on international organizations and relevant authorities to intervene immediately, open humanitarian corridors, and ensure the implementation of medical transfer procedures so that critically ill and injured patients can access life-saving treatment.
He stresses that Gaza’s patients are locked in a relentless race against time, where every delay brings them closer to permanent disability and the loss of hope for recovery.
A Healthcare System on the Brink
The Ministry of Health in Gaza has repeatedly warned of the rapidly worsening conditions facing wounded patients and those suffering from serious illnesses, emphasizing that further delays in treatment could lead to amputations, permanent disabilities, or even death.
According to the ministry, thousands of injured individuals continue to live with shrapnel embedded in their bodies and require specialized medical interventions unavailable inside the territory.
Health officials also report that shortages of surgical supplies and medical consumables have reached 80 percent, while shortages of essential medications have surpassed 50 percent, further straining an already overwhelmed healthcare system.
