Gaza Herald – A high-level meeting convened on Thursday brought together government officials and representatives from a wide spectrum of international, UN, and Arab organizations. The gathering aimed to discuss ways to enhance the immediate humanitarian response amid the worsening disaster in the Gaza Strip.
The session was attended by 35 officials and representatives from various institutions. This emergency move came in response to a government call regarding the serious repercussions of the recent tragedy involving the collapse of the “Bayt Al-Saada” building in Gaza City.
Participants engaged in an extensive and deep discussion concerning the pivotal role required from UN, international, and Arab organizations to handle the exceptional harsh conditions facing the sector. They also examined mechanisms to intensify relief and logistical support.
The attendees concluded with a package of urgent recommendations. These prioritized the necessity for immediate intervention to address the crisis of hundreds of cracked buildings exposed to the risk of collapse. The presence stressed the importance of taking practical and proactive steps to ensure citizen safety.
Officials emphasized providing necessary capabilities to prevent the recurrence of the Bayt Al-Saada collapse in the future. Government ministries and institutions announced they are dedicating all their capabilities and providing necessary facilitations to remove any obstacles hindering the implementation of the emergency plan.
They confirmed their commitment to providing and allocating land for establishing shelter camps to guarantee citizen safety. Alongside these measures, the attendees stressed the need to launch an international humanitarian appeal.
They called upon mediators to work hard and immediately to facilitate the entry of heavy machinery and equipment. This includes fuel and oil supplies, which are considered the lifeblood of field operations to prevent the escalation of the crisis.
