Two children killed in Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon

Gaza Herald – Two children were killed and seven others injured during the past 24 hours following Israeli airstrikes targeting multiple areas in southern Lebanon. These attacks continue despite announced ceasefire agreements aimed at stabilizing the region.

Reports indicate that two children died and four others were wounded after an Israeli strike hit a house in Kafr Kaman, located in the Nabatieh district. Additionally, three other children sustained injuries from separate strikes on Arab Salim and the city of Nabatieh itself.

These incidents occur despite a framework agreement signed under US sponsorship on June 26. The deal stipulates a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territories in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army in those areas.

On Saturday, Adnan Al-Zein, head of the parliamentary committee for women and children in Lebanon, stated that approximately 800 children have been killed during the Israeli wars on Lebanon in 2024 and 2026. She highlighted the severe toll on the younger population.

Al-Zein explained that many children suffered serious injuries requiring multiple surgeries, with some losing limbs or eyesight. This has necessitated years of medical treatment alongside psychological and social support services to address their long-term needs.

The lawmaker noted that around 360,000 children were displaced during the Israeli war, out of nearly 1.2 million total displaced persons. She added that many were forced to flee multiple times as areas hosting them came under bombardment.

She emphasized that the effects of the aggression extend beyond physical injuries to include long-lasting psychological trauma. Hundreds of thousands of children currently require specialized programs for mental health care and social support.

In May, UNICEF warned about the ongoing violence affecting Lebanese children. The organization affirmed that children continue to bear the heaviest price due to violence, displacement, and psychological shocks, urging all parties to protect them.

According to the latest data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, 259 children have been killed since March 2, out of 4,362 total fatalities. Furthermore, 1,050 children were injured during the same period, contributing to a total of 12,378 wounded individuals.
