Gaza Death Toll Surpasses 73,000 as Aid Crisis Deepens

Gaza Herald- The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate as the Palestinian death toll from Israel’s genocidal war on the enclave has climbed above 73,000. At the same time, nearly 1,000 Palestinians have been killed since a ceasefire agreement took effect in October 2025.

Rising Casualties Across Gaza

Palestinian medical authorities reported Tuesday that 73,008 Palestinians have been killed and 173,260 wounded since the war began on October 7, 2023. Hospitals across Gaza recorded five additional deaths and eight injuries over the previous 24 hours.

Health officials noted that many victims are still believed to be trapped beneath collapsed buildings or located in areas inaccessible to rescue teams due to ongoing challenges on the ground.

Deaths Continue Despite Ceasefire

Although a ceasefire came into effect on October 11, 2025, Palestinian officials say violence has continued. According to medical sources, 997 Palestinians have been killed and 3,152 injured since the truce began.

Authorities also reported recovering the remains of 784 victims from under rubble and destroyed structures during the ceasefire period.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s Government Media Office stated that it has documented 3,269 alleged Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement. According to the office, these incidents resulted in 992 deaths, 3,144 injuries, and 95 arrests.

UN Raises Alarm Over Humanitarian Conditions

Speaking before the UN Human Rights Council, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk warned that conditions in Gaza continue to worsen.

Türk said Palestinians are increasingly confined to smaller areas while access to essential humanitarian assistance remains severely limited. He also criticized statements by Israeli officials calling for the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza or opposing the establishment of a viable Palestinian state, arguing that such positions contradict international law.

Aid Deliveries Remain Below Agreed Levels

The Government Media Office accused Israel of failing to meet its obligations regarding humanitarian assistance under the ceasefire agreement.

Officials said that 52,740 aid trucks entered Gaza during the ceasefire period, significantly below the 147,000 trucks expected under the agreement, representing only 36 percent of the planned deliveries.

Humanitarian organizations continue to warn that shortages of food, medicine, fuel, and shelter are placing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians at risk across the territory.

Concerns Extend to the Occupied West Bank

Türk also highlighted developments in the occupied West Bank, where he said demolitions of Palestinian communities and land confiscations have intensified.

According to the UN official, 57 Palestinians have been killed and around 1,300 injured in the West Bank since the beginning of 2026. He noted that many injuries were linked to attacks by Israeli settlers, while hundreds of Palestinians have been detained and 23 land seizure orders issued during the same period.
