UN Rights Chief: Nearly 1,000 Palestinians Killed in Gaza Since Ceasefire Took Effect

Gaza Herald – The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, has warned of a worsening humanitarian and human rights crisis in Gaza, stating that Israeli occupation forces have killed nearly 1,000 Palestinians since the ceasefire was announced in October 2025.

Addressing the Human Rights Council on Monday, Türk said Palestinians in Gaza are being forced into ever-shrinking areas while life-saving humanitarian aid continues to face severe restrictions.

He stressed that statements by some Israeli officials advocating the removal of Palestinians from Gaza or rejecting the possibility of a viable Palestinian state are completely unlawful under international law.

Türk also highlighted the situation in the occupied West Bank, where he said Israeli occupation forces and settlers are accelerating the destruction of Palestinian communities and the seizure of land. According to the UN official, 57 Palestinians have been killed and around 1,300 injured in the West Bank since the beginning of 2026, with many injuries linked to settler attacks. He added that hundreds have been detained and 23 land seizure orders have been issued during the same period.

Separately, Gaza’s Government Media Office reported that it has documented 3,269 Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement since it came into effect in October 2025. The reported violations have resulted in 992 victims, 3,144 injuries, and 95 detainings.

The office further accused Israel of failing to fulfill the humanitarian provisions of the agreement, stating that only 52,740 aid trucks have entered Gaza out of the 147,000 that were expected under the deal, representing just 36% of the agreed amount.

The figures come amid growing international concern over the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as restrictions on aid deliveries continue and living conditions for civilians deteriorate.
