Gaza Herald _The Civil Defense in Gaza has issued a warning that humanitarian conditions and essential public services are approaching unprecedented levels of deterioration as the summer season begins. According to spokesperson Major Mahmoud Bassal, military activity has not effectively stopped despite repeated references to a ceasefire, leaving residents exposed to worsening risks and deepening humanitarian distress.
Bassal stressed that daily life in Gaza continues under conditions that remain shaped by destruction, displacement, and repeated attacks.
Strikes Continue Despite Claims of Calm
Recent Israeli attacks reportedly targeted Gaza’s port area, a location that had become one of the few places where displaced residents sought temporary relief from overcrowding, hardship, and mounting psychological pressure.
The strikes caused deaths and injuries among civilians in the area, with many of the wounded transferred to overwhelmed medical facilities.
Artillery fire also reportedly hit the Zeitoun neighborhood east of Gaza City, adding further casualties and increasing pressure on hospitals already operating under severe constraints.
Eid Arrives Amid Rising Casualties and Repeated Violations
Civil Defense officials reported that more than 30 people were killed during the first days of Eid al-Adha, with women and children representing a large portion of the victims.
Bassal said the scale of violence continues despite public discussions about a truce and contradicts claims that meaningful calm has been achieved.
He added that since the announcement of the ceasefire, Israeli forces have carried out thousands of violations, resulting in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries.
Emergency Teams Struggle With Limited Resources
Despite the worsening conditions, Civil Defense crews continue operating with damaged equipment and extremely limited capabilities.
Officials pointed to severe shortages of fuel, spare parts, and basic supplies needed to keep emergency services functioning at a time when demand continues to rise.
The spokesperson emphasized that rescuers are being forced to work under conditions that make already difficult operations even more dangerous.
Summer Heat Threatens to Deepen Gaza’s Crisis
As temperatures climb, authorities warned that Gaza’s humanitarian situation could deteriorate further.
Thousands of displaced families remain in overcrowded tent camps where infrastructure is minimal and access to basic services remains limited. The lack of cooking gas has pushed many families toward unsafe alternatives, increasing fears of widespread fire incidents inside temporary shelters.
Calls for Urgent International Action
Bassal criticized the slow international response to repeated warnings from medical institutions, municipalities, and emergency services across Gaza.
He argued that public statements and aid discussions have not translated into sufficient action to meet the reality on the ground.
Civil Defense officials renewed calls for immediate support to protect civilians, strengthen service systems, and provide life-saving assistance.
They warned that without urgent and effective measures, Gaza’s residents risk facing an increasingly severe reality marked by shortages, displacement, destruction, and prolonged humanitarian collapse.
