Gaza Herald – The Wall Street Journal revealed that Israeli occupation forces prepared lists containing the names of thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip targeted for assassination or abduction, allegedly over claims of involvement in the Al-Aqsa Flood operation on October 7, 2023, as part of a broad security campaign accompanying Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.
According to the newspaper, Israeli occupation forces used advanced surveillance technologies and facial recognition software to track wanted individuals and carry out assassinations and kidnapping operations against hundreds of Palestinians. The report stated that the policy was presented as part of a deterrence strategy aimed at preventing others from joining armed resistance activities.
These revelations come amid a large-scale Israeli kidnapping campaign across Gaza since the beginning of the genocide, targeting thousands of Palestinians, including doctors, paramedics, journalists, women, and children. Numerous testimonies have emerged describing torture and abuse inside Israeli detention centers.
Reports and testimonies from released Palestinian detainees documented severe beatings, humiliation, starvation, and medical neglect during detention, particularly after detainees were included in prisoner exchange lists. Former detainees also spoke of intensified abuse in the days leading up to their release, including denial of food and medical care, alongside ongoing physical and psychological assaults.
Human rights reports and testimonies from released detainees further indicated that Israeli occupation forces used multiple forms of torture against Gaza detainees, including violent beatings, forced stripping, prolonged shackling, food deprivation, and the use of dogs during assaults and interrogations, in addition to threats and harsh interrogations inside secret detention facilities.
