Israeli Navy Detains Three Palestinian Brothers While Fishing off Gaza Coast

Gaza Herald – Israeli naval forces on Monday detained three Palestinian fishermen, all brothers, while they were working off the coast of Gaza, after Israeli warships intercepted their boat and took them to an undisclosed location.

Zakaria Bakr, head of Gaza’s fishermen syndicate, identified the detained fishermen as Saeed, Moaz, and Mohammad Adel Abu Rayala. He said Israeli forces detained them while they were carrying out their work within the already restricted fishing zone imposed on Gaza’s coastline.

The incident is part of a recurring pattern of Israeli violations against Palestinian fishermen, including arrests, live fire attacks, and the confiscation of fishing boats, further worsening the humanitarian and economic conditions facing fishing families in the besieged enclave.

Hundreds of families in Gaza rely on fishing as a primary source of income. However, ongoing maritime restrictions and repeated targeting of fishermen have severely reduced fish production and deepened poverty among workers in the sector.
