Gaza Herald – The Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced on Monday the establishment of 10 temporary schools across Gaza as part of an emergency support project for the upcoming high school exams, funded by the Qatar-based “Education Above All” foundation in coordination with the UN Development Programme.
The temporary schools consist of tents mounted on metal frames, each housing 10 classrooms along with administrative and sanitary facilities. The total project cost is $650,000, with completion scheduled for the coming weeks, ahead of the June exams.
The Ministry said it has implemented a comprehensive national plan to address Gaza’s educational challenges, including flexible learning programs and alternative education measures to guarantee students’ right to education. Coordination continues with international and local partners to provide the necessary support for the education sector.
Officials emphasized that the initiative aims to prepare students both academically and psychologically by creating suitable learning environments and reinforcing supportive programs, ensuring the continuity and resilience of education under exceptional conditions.
Over 293 out of 309 schools in Gaza were bombarded by Israeli airstrikes during the recent genocide, while the remaining schools have been repurposed as shelters for displaced families, according to statements by Education Minister Amjad Barhum.
