Rights Center: Israel Systematically Makes Gaza Uninhabitable

Gaza Herald – The Gaza Center for Human Rights strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing policies aimed at turning Gaza into an unlivable area, citing targeted attacks on humanitarian operations, sustained aerial and artillery bombardment, and actions that may amount to genocide under international law.

The center reported that over the past two years, Israeli forces struck aid agencies, medical teams, and emergency responders, violating the principles of distinction and proportionality under the 1949 Geneva Conventions.

The center highlighted a coordinated attack on UNRWA, warning that attempts to block the agency’s operations amounted to “collective execution” of nearly two million Palestinian refugees, deliberately undermining access to essential services such as health, education, and food, and forcing residents toward displacement. The destruction of civil service infrastructure compounded the deprivation, leaving Gaza’s population with minimal access to basic needs.

Since the ceasefire of October 10, 2025, the center noted that only 43% of the agreed humanitarian aid reached the Strip, with an average of 259 trucks per day entering.

Restrictions on food, medicine, and fuel constitute collective punishment, which is prohibited under Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Targeting essential services, including water, electricity, healthcare, and schools, coupled with incitement and practical measures, aimed to destroy the Palestinian population partially or entirely, falling within the definition of genocide under the 1948 Convention.

Medical infrastructure has been severely impacted, with hospitals facing critical shortages of electricity and equipment, putting intensive care and neonatal patients at imminent risk. Gaza’s human rights center warned that obstructing energy and medical supply lines was a deliberate attempt to render survival in Gaza life-threatening, constituting a core element of genocidal intent.

The center stressed that border crossings were being manipulated as tools for demographic engineering, controlling aid and medical evacuations while enforcing hunger and medical blackmail.

Denying humanitarian access and regulating logistical flows to hospitals represents a blatant violation of Article 55 of the Fourth Geneva Convention and a deliberate threat to civilian survival.

The Gaza Human Rights Center called on the international community, especially Geneva Convention signatories, to act immediately to halt acts of genocide and crimes against humanity, ensure civilian protection, and allow unrestricted humanitarian aid. The center urged the International Criminal Court to expedite investigations and accountability measures while pledging to continue documentation, legal support, and advocacy to preserve life and dignity in Gaza.
