Israel Kills Two Palestinians in Gaza on First Day of Ramadan

Gaza Herald – At least two Palestinians were killed Wednesday in separate incidents as Israeli forces continued to enforce restrictions on medical evacuations through the partially reopened Rafah crossing.

One child was killed in the northern Strip after an Israeli drone struck civilians inspecting their destroyed homes, while a 20-year-old Muhand Jamal al-Najjar was shot near the Bani Suheila roundabout east of Khan Younis.

Medical sources reported additional injuries to three Palestinians in al-Mughraqa and the al-Mawasi area of Rafah. These deaths occurred amid ongoing violations of the ceasefire, which has been in place since mid-October 2025 but repeatedly breached by Israeli forces. Since the truce, over 600 Palestinians have been killed and more than 1,600 wounded, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

The killings coincided with a continued blockade on medical evacuations. The United Nations reported that only 260 patients have been allowed to leave Gaza for urgent care in Egypt since the partial reopening of Rafah, far below the roughly 18,500 who require evacuation. Promises of 50 patients per day were largely unmet, with only five patients permitted to cross initially.

Those returning to Gaza described humiliating searches and intense interrogations by Israeli soldiers. Some reported being blindfolded for hours during political questioning and subjected to psychological pressure before being allowed back into the Strip.

The World Health Organization and other humanitarian groups have repeatedly urged Israel to allow unhindered access for Palestinians in need of specialized medical care, while also calling for urgent reinforcement of healthcare services inside Gaza to reduce dependence on evacuations.
