Israel Releases Eight Palestinian Detainees in Critical Health Condition

Gaza Herald – Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah received eight newly released Palestinian detainees on Monday evening, following their transfer from Israel’s Sde Teiman detention facility to Gaza with coordination from the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Medical sources reported that all eight arrived in severely deteriorated health conditions and were immediately admitted for treatment. Hospital staff cited visible signs of physical exhaustion and complications consistent with prolonged detention.

According to available information, the detainees were arrested from various areas across the Gaza Strip, including Karem Abu Salem, Khan Younis, Jabalia, Rafah, the Civil Administration area, and coastal zones, before being transferred to Sde Teiman prison.

During January and February 2026, limited and intermittent releases of Palestinian detainees were carried out via the Karem Abu Salem crossing in coordination with the Red Cross. Reports indicate that at least 31 detainees were freed during this period, all reportedly requiring immediate medical attention upon arrival due to declining health conditions.

Human rights advocates continue to warn of worsening medical conditions among Palestinian detainees, citing insufficient healthcare and harsh detention circumstances. The limited releases, observers note, fall short of mounting humanitarian calls for broader action to address the condition of prisoners still in custody.
