Israel Releases Five Gaza Detainees From Sde Teiman Prison

Gaza Herald – Israeli authorities released five Palestinian detainees from the Gaza Strip on Sunday, ending weeks and months of detention in Sde Teiman prison. This facility has drawn mounting international scrutiny over allegations of abuse and harsh conditions. The Palestinians arrived in Gaza under escort from the International Committee of the Red Cross following their release.

According to local reports, those freed included a 17-year-old from Deir al-Balah detained at sea, a 33-year-old truck driver arrested near a Rafah aid distribution point, and three other young men seized either from Gaza’s coastline or while working inside areas under Israeli control after the war began.

The detainees described a pattern of arrests carried out far from active combat zones, underscoring what rights groups say is Israel’s sweeping detention campaign targeting Palestinians from Gaza under opaque security pretexts. Sde Teiman, in particular, has become emblematic of that policy, with former detainees and legal advocates citing severe mistreatment and denial of basic rights.

The release came as Israel continued to hold thousands of Palestinians from Gaza and the occupied West Bank, including women and children, amid persistent warnings from human rights organizations that detention conditions amount to systematic abuse and violate international humanitarian law.
