Gaza Herald – In a tragic accident in Dier al-Balah, former Palestinian prisoner Mohamed Ahmed Al-Basyouni has died after being injured when his tent collapsed from strong winds during the recent storm.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene, but Al-Basyouni succumbed to his injuries before he could receive full medical care.
Local authorities said that the high winds toppled tents and makeshift shelters across the area, leaving dozens injured and exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. Al-Basyouni had been recently released from Israeli detention, and his death adds to the mounting toll of civilians caught in the aftereffects of the blockade and ongoing infrastructure crisis.
Humanitarian workers warned that with shelter conditions deteriorating across the Gaza Strip, storms like this pose a deadly threat to vulnerable populations. Many residents remain in flimsy tents with minimal protection against extreme weather, highlighting the urgent need for reconstruction and international aid.
