Gaza Herald – UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said on Sunday that Gaza’s brutal winter weather had compounded suffering that has dragged on for more than two years as a result of Israel’s war on the besieged enclave.
In a post on X, Lazzarini warned that more rain meant “more misery, despair, and death,” as Palestinians struggled to survive in flooded, torn tents amid widespread destruction.
He said residents were enduring the cold while living among rubble, with humanitarian aid failing to enter Gaza in sufficient quantities. Lazzarini stressed that UNRWA stood ready to scale up life-saving assistance immediately if Israel allowed the unrestricted flow of aid into the Strip, underscoring that the deepening crisis was being driven not by nature alone, but by deliberate obstruction.
