Hamas Says Israel Evades Ceasefire Obligations, Urges US to Force Compliance

Gaza Herald – Senior Hamas official Mahmoud Mardawi said Israel had failed to honor its commitments under the ceasefire agreement, accusing the occupation of continuing policies of killing and starvation against the Palestinian people. Speaking to media on Sunday, Mardawi said the truce was being systematically undermined through ongoing violations and deliberate delays.

Mardawi stated that Hamas had called on the US administration to exert real pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and compel him to implement the ceasefire agreement without selectivity or stalling fully. He stressed that partial compliance only served Israel’s interests while prolonging Palestinian suffering.

He warned that Israel’s continued evasion of its obligations had destroyed any genuine prospects for halting the aggression, urging the international community to shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities instead of remaining silent in the face of ongoing crimes against civilians in Gaza. Furthermore, he also emphasized the need to move to the second phase of the agreement to ensure a lasting cessation of hostilities and ease the worsening humanitarian crisis.

Mardawi added that any governing or administrative body for Gaza must be purely Palestinian and reflect the will of the Palestinian people, free from external dictates. His remarks came amid what Palestinians describe as a US. and Europe-backed Israeli genocide since October 7, 2023, marked by mass killings, starvation, displacement, and widespread destruction, leaving hundreds of thousands dead or wounded, thousands missing, and entire cities across Gaza reduced to rubble.
