Gaza Herald – Around 900,000 displaced Palestinians were forced to shelter in torn, fragile tents across Gaza as a powerful winter storm hit the Strip, the Palestinian NGOs Network said, warning of an escalating humanitarian disaster.
In Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, seawater and heavy rain flooded dozens of tents, while waves swallowed entire shelters along the coast. Khan Younis Mayor Alaa al-Din al-Batta said more than 1,000 tents were damaged, describing scenes of families left stranded with no protection from the cold or flooding.
The storm laid bare the extreme vulnerability of Gaza’s displaced population, most of whom have no alternative shelter after Israel’s destruction of civilian housing and continued restrictions on aid and temporary housing materials, leaving families exposed to both the sea and the elements.
