Gaza Herald- The World Health Organization’s (WHO) representative in Palestine, Rik Peeperkorn, revealed that more than 16,500 patients in the Gaza Strip are still waiting for medical evacuation to receive treatment outside the region.
Speaking at a press conference in Geneva, Peeperkorn noted that only half of Gaza’s hospitals are even partially functioning, with just 18 out of 36 facilities offering limited services.
He added that since the ceasefire began, 26 health centers have resumed operations, and 8 new ones have been established.
WHO has managed to deliver 2,050 medical supply kits into Gaza since the truce took effect. However, 343 out of 622 essential medications listed by the Palestinian Ministry of Health are now completely out of stock.
These alarming health indicators reflect the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and highlight the urgent need to establish safe evacuation channels and ensure a sustainable flow of critical medical supplies.
