Gaza Herald— The Gaza Municipality has issued an urgent appeal for international intervention as heavy rainfall continues to worsen humanitarian conditions in the besieged enclave. With stormwater drainage systems largely destroyed by ongoing Israeli bombardments, sewage and waste have overflowed into homes and overcrowded displacement shelters.
In a press statement on Saturday, the municipality described the situation as “catastrophic,” adding that despite having plans in place to respond to weather-related crises, they lack the equipment and resources to act effectively.
The Government Media Office echoed the alarm, warning of a dire humanitarian collapse. It said at least 250,000 tents and 100,000 caravans are urgently needed to house displaced families, especially with winter intensifying and many tents collapsing or degrading.
The office sharply criticized the international community’s silence, calling it “unacceptable” in the face of Israel’s ongoing obstruction of humanitarian aid. It held all parties accountable for the deteriorating conditions facing tens of thousands of displaced people now living exposed to the elements without basic supplies.
The office urged international stakeholders, the UN, the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and humanitarian organizations, to act swiftly and pressure Israel to allow the entry of life-saving medical, food, and shelter supplies.
“The continued delay and evasion of Israel’s responsibilities is deepening the crisis,” the statement concluded. “The world must raise its voice now before it’s too late.”
