Gaza Herald – UNRWA says more than 282,000 homes in Gaza have been destroyed or damaged by Israel’s ongoing genocidal war, leaving hundreds of thousands of Palestinians without shelter as winter approaches. The figures are based on data from the global Shelter Cluster, jointly led by UNHCR and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
The agency warns that countless families are now forced to live in overcrowded tents amid rubble and devastation, with no privacy, no basic services, and almost no protection from the cold, rain, or disease. Many displaced Palestinians are squeezed into tiny, improvised spaces that were never meant to be homes.
Despite these catastrophic conditions, Gaza remains under blockade, with rebuilding materials, adequate shelter supplies, and meaningful reconstruction efforts effectively blocked, ensuring that for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, “home” this winter will be a tent pitched in the ruins of a destroyed city.
