285 Palestinian Bodies Returned, Almost None Recognized

Gaza Herald – Palestinian families in Gaza are struggling to identify 285 bodies returned from Israeli custody, as most arrived disfigured, decomposed, and stripped of identity, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.

Many bodies show signs of torture, and some were found handcuffed, an indication that Israel’s cruelty continued even after death.

Forensic doctors say they are racing against decay with no DNA labs, no cold storage, and almost no tools to preserve or identify the killed, because Israel continues to block the entry of forensic and medical equipment into Gaza. “All we are asking for is the ability to return their names,” officials said.

Families wait under the sun, clutching photos and clothing fragments, praying for recognition and bracing for heartbreak.
“There was no time, no space, no goodbye,” one woman said, after burying a loved one whose body could not be touched without falling apart.
