Inside Ketziot: Palestinian Prisoners Stripped of Dignity

Gaza Herald_ Leaked images from inside Israel’s notorious Ketziot Prison in the Negev Desert have ignited widespread outrage, revealing the degrading and inhumane treatment of Palestinian detainees. The footage showing prisoners forced into humiliating positions and subjected to violent searches has renewed international scrutiny of Israel’s systematic abuse of Palestinians held under its so-called “security” regime.

The Hebrew-language outlet Kikar HaShabbat published what it described as a “major exposé,” including images captured by Israeli photographer Haim Goldberg, who was granted access to Ketziot in February 2025. The report portrays what Israeli officials cynically refer to as “daily life” inside the largest detention facility in Israel, where thousands of Palestinians are imprisoned under appalling conditions.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir recently displayed footage from inside the prison, boasting about the restrictions imposed on Palestinian detainees. In one video, Ben Gvir is seen standing before a narrow, dimly lit cell, pointing through a small window at three prisoners seated on the floor, their backs hunched, a scene that human rights advocates have condemned as emblematic of Israel’s policy of humiliation and dehumanization.

According to Palestinian and international rights groups, Israel continues to hold more than 10,000 Palestinians, including women, minors, and administrative detainees, in conditions that amount to collective punishment. Reports consistently document widespread torture, medical neglect, and the systematic denial of basic rights in Israeli prisons.

The leaked images from Ketziot lay bare what Palestinian human rights defenders have long asserted: that Israel’s prison system functions not as a place of justice but as an instrument of domination. As the world watches, the suffering of these detainees stands as yet another testament to the cruelty of an apartheid regime that continues to operate with impunity.
