Gaza Buried Under 60 Million Tons of Rubble, 1.5 Million Palestinians Homeless

Gaza Herald – Nearly 1.5 million Palestinians have been left homeless as Gaza lies crushed beneath 60 million tons of rubble, following two years of relentless Israeli bombardment that has wiped out entire neighborhoods and buried families beneath the ruins.

Amjad al-Shawa, Executive Director of the Palestinian NGO Network in Gaza, said more than 80% of homes have been destroyed, leaving survivors in unimaginable conditions as they return to find nothing but dust and debris where their homes once stood.

Between 300,000 and 400,000 displaced Palestinians have managed to return to northern Gaza and Gaza City, despite the devastation. Al-Shawa warned that reconstruction will take decades, emphasizing the urgent need for emergency relief to recover bodies, locate the missing, and shelter millions.

He noted that 17,000 wounded and sick Palestinians require immediate medical evacuation as Gaza’s health system collapses under the weight of destruction and famine.

Al-Shawa also revealed plans for an international donors’ conference in Egypt, coordinated with the Palestinian Authority and Arab partners, to fund the rebuilding of Gaza’s shattered infrastructure.

He called for uninterrupted humanitarian aid and an end to Israel’s blockade to allow life-saving food, medicine, and shelter to reach civilians, stressing that Gaza’s recovery depends on global solidarity and sustained humanitarian support to heal from one of the worst genocides in modern history.
