Israel’s One-Week Aggression on Gaza City Leaves 50,000 Palestinians Homeless

Gaza Herald – In less than a week, Israel’s airstrikes on Gaza City have left more than 50,000 people, including children, women, and the elderly, without homes, according to Gaza Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal. What Israel called “opening the gates of hell” has instead turned Gaza City into a wasteland, with entire neighborhoods flattened and its population cast into the streets.

High-rise apartment blocks were toppled in waves of Israeli airstrikes, displacing more than 10,000 in a single strike. Over 120 smaller buildings, averaging three floors each, were obliterated, driving another 7,200 residents from their homes.

More than 500 other structures sustained partial destruction, stripping nearly 30,000 people of safe shelter. Even those clinging to life in makeshift tents saw them incinerated, as over 600 shelters were torn apart, forcing at least 6,000 into the open.

Despite relentless Israeli bombardment and widespread destruction, over one million people remain in northern Gaza, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Countless families, even those whose homes lie in ruins, refuse to leave. They insist on living atop the rubble, a defiant testament to their unbroken spirit amid the devastation.
