Gaza City Residents Refuse to Flee Amid Relentless Bombardment

Gaza Herald – Over 1.2 million Palestinians remain steadfast in Gaza City and the northern Gaza Strip, defiantly rejecting Israeli orders to move south despite relentless airstrikes, shelling, and ongoing acts of genocide, according to the Government Media Office (GMO).

The GMO confirms that Gaza City and northern Gaza host more than 1.3 million residents, including roughly 398,000 from North Gaza Governorate, many temporarily displaced within western Gaza, and over 914,000 from Gaza Governorate, including 300,000 forced from eastern neighborhoods.

A striking “reverse displacement” phenomenon is unfolding: despite heavy bombardment driving around 35,000 south, more than 12,000 have returned to their original neighborhoods by Sunday evening, citing the complete absence of basic living conditions in southern areas.

Areas falsely labeled as “humanitarian safe zones,” including Al-Mawasi in Khan Younis and Rafah, currently trap around 800,000 people and have endured 109 airstrikes and repeated shelling, claiming over 2,000 lives. These zones lack hospitals, water, food, electricity, shelter, and schools, so survival nearly impossible.

Eyewitnesses highlight the unwavering determination of Gaza’s residents. A young man rescued from rubble in northern Gaza by Civil Defense told reporters, “I won’t leave the north except for paradise.”

Amid one of the gravest humanitarian crises of recent times, Gaza’s population continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience, standing firm on their land despite the ongoing genocide and total destruction surrounding them.
