8,000 Palestinian bodies remain trapped under Gaza’s rubble

Gaza Herald – Gaza’s Civil Defense has reported that more than 8,000 Palestinians who were killed during the Israeli bombardment remain buried under the rubble across the Gaza Strip.

According to a statement by the agency, the bodies are believed to be trapped beneath the remains of more than 1,000 homes and civilian structures that were struck in various parts of the territory. Rescue teams say they are operating under extremely difficult conditions, with severe shortages of heavy machinery, fuel, and essential equipment needed for recovery operations.

The scale of destruction has left entire neighborhoods reduced to ruins, making access to victims extremely difficult or, in many cases, impossible. Civil Defense crews describe their efforts as far beyond their current technical and human capacity.

The continued inability to recover bodies reflects the extent of the devastation to Gaza’s residential infrastructure, where large areas have been flattened and basic rescue operations remain severely constrained.

Since 7 October 2023, Gaza has witnessed widespread destruction amid ongoing Israeli military operations. Local authorities report large-scale civilian casualties, extensive displacement, and critical humanitarian shortages, including food, water, and medical care.

The situation has also left thousands of Palestinians missing, with families still searching for relatives believed to be under debris or in unknown locations.

Humanitarian organizations argue that the scale of destruction and the number of unrecovered bodies highlight urgent needs for access, equipment, and coordinated recovery efforts to address the growing humanitarian crisis.
