Gaza Herald – The Palestinian Health Ministry warned that Israeli restrictions on the entry of essential oils and spare parts are pushing the territory’s already collapsing healthcare system toward imminent shutdown.
Health officials said Israeli authorities have continued to block critical supplies needed to maintain and operate electrical generators, which serve as the backbone of hospital operations amid ongoing power shortages.
The ministry described the ban as one of the most dangerous forms of pressure on Gaza’s healthcare sector, noting that hospitals require approximately 2,500 liters of oil per month to sustain generator function and ensure continuity of medical services.
Officials added that existing generators have been running for over two years under extreme conditions, leaving them severely worn out and increasingly prone to breakdowns.
As shortages worsen, vital hospital departments, including intensive care units, operating rooms, neonatal incubators, emergency services, dialysis units, and diagnostic imaging, face the risk of complete shutdown.
Engineering and technical teams have been working with severely limited resources to keep generators operational, but warned that the situation is becoming unsustainable.
The ministry issued an urgent appeal to the international community, calling for immediate intervention and pressure on Israel to allow the entry of essential supplies needed to prevent a catastrophic collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system.
