Hamas Warns Israel Exploits Regional Tensions to Intensify Gaza Assault

Gaza Herald _Hamas has accused Israel of intensifying its military operations in the Gaza Strip while the world’s attention is focused on escalating tensions across the region, warning that the attacks are worsening the humanitarian crisis and targeting civilians and displaced people.

Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said Israeli forces continue to carry out deadly attacks against residents of Gaza, taking advantage of the international community’s preoccupation with rising military tensions between the United States and Iran, as well as developments elsewhere in the Middle East.

According to Qassem, Israeli forces recently targeted a group of civilians in Gaza City shortly before the evening meal marking the end of the daily fast, while earlier in the day, air strikes reportedly hit tents sheltering displaced Palestinians.

He also said Israel had further tightened the blockade on the enclave by keeping the Rafah crossing closed, a move he said deepens the suffering of Gaza’s population amid already dire humanitarian conditions.

Qassem described the attacks as a violation of the ceasefire agreement and called on international mediators to take urgent action to halt Israeli attacks on Palestinian civilians and lift the blockade imposed on Gaza.

According to figures cited by the movement, Israeli military operations in Gaza since October 2023 have resulted in the deaths of more than 72,000 Palestinians and left over 171,000 others injured.
