Gaza Herald- Amnesty International has warned that women in Gaza are facing unprecedented levels of discrimination and violence, stating that ongoing Israeli attacks have severely reduced access to basic necessities of life and women’s healthcare services, including reproductive health care, which are now at risk of running out.
The organization reported that Israeli authorities have adopted what it described as a systematic policy of sexual and reproductive violence against Palestinians in Gaza. According to Amnesty and a United Nations investigation conducted in March 2025, attacks on women’s healthcare facilities and restrictions preventing women from accessing medical care form part of actions that may amount to genocide, aimed at obstructing the natural growth of the population in the enclave.
UN investigators also stated in September 2025 that Israel may have committed acts that could amount to genocide in Gaza, including coercive measures and harsh living conditions affecting Palestinian reproductive rights, reinforcing findings previously documented by Amnesty International in late 2024.
Amnesty said it is working with women’s groups and human rights defenders to document violations in Gaza, warning that the severe harm inflicted on women requires urgent international action. The organization stressed that continued silence risks further targeting of the most vulnerable populations in the conflict.
It also warned that global setbacks in gender equality and attacks on reproductive rights make the situation of women in Gaza a powerful symbol of resistance against injustice worldwide.
While highlighting women’s struggles globally, Amnesty emphasized that Gaza represents the most urgent case, calling on the international community to take immediate steps to protect Palestinian women and girls and safeguard the territory’s healthcare system.
