Israeli Soldier Dies in Friendly Fire Incident in Southern Gaza

Gaza Herald – An Israeli soldier was killed Wednesday in what military officials described as a friendly fire incident in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. The army confirmed that a member of the Paratroopers Reconnaissance Unit died during operations in the area but provided no further operational details.

Israel’s public broadcaster KAN reported that the soldier was mistakenly struck by Israeli army fire, prompting an internal investigation. The incident underscored the volatile and fragmented battlefield conditions that have persisted in Gaza despite the declared ceasefire.

According to Israeli military data, 925 troops have been killed since the war began in October 2023, including 471 during ground combat inside Gaza. A US-backed ceasefire has been in effect since October 10, yet hostilities have continued through repeated exchanges of fire and reported violations.

Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that since the ceasefire took effect, Israeli fire resulted in 603 Palestinians killed and 1,618 injuries. Since the start of the genocide, more than 72,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 171,000 wounded, the majority of them women and children, amid widespread destruction across the enclave.
