Gaza Herald – A United Nations special rapporteur warned that the international community had actively enabled Israeli crimes during the war on Gaza by providing weapons, political cover, and economic support instead of acting to halt the violence. Speaking via video link at Al Jazeera Forum, Francesca Albanese said Israel’s actions could not be separated from the global systems that sustained them.
Albanese stated that most Western governments and media outlets had amplified what she described as a “genocidal narrative,” shielding Israel from accountability while international law was being undermined. She argued that this complicity had allowed violations to continue unchecked, even as civilian suffering in Gaza mounted.
She said the erosion of international law posed a shared global threat, describing it as an attack on the foundations of fundamental freedoms everywhere. Albanese emphasized that respect for human rights and international legal norms remained the last peaceful means available to confront injustice and prevent further atrocities.
Calling for collective responsibility, she urged governments, institutions, media, and individuals to act decisively. “We need to stand up and do the right thing,” she said, stressing that accountability and solidarity were essential to ending impunity and restoring the credibility of international law.
