Gaza Steps Back From Famine but Mass Hunger Still Grips Enclave

Gaza Herald – Gaza was pulled back from full-scale famine after limited food access improved following the October 10 ceasefire, but more than 100,000 Palestinians were still trapped in catastrophic hunger, a global food security monitor reported.

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) said the easing was fragile and driven by restricted humanitarian and commercial food flows allowed under Israeli occupation control. It warned that Gaza remained in a critical emergency phase, with the entire population still one step away from famine.

The report cautioned that any renewed Israeli military escalation or suspension of aid could push all of Gaza back into famine conditions by mid-2026, stressing that Israeli authorities continue to control every entry point into the besieged Strip.

Children and women remained among the hardest hit. The IPC projected acute malnutrition for nearly 101,000 young children and around 37,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women, underscoring that Gaza’s hunger crisis persists despite temporary relief.
