Gaza Herald — The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has warned that the accelerating humanitarian breakdown in the Gaza Strip cannot be separated from Israel’s ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people, stressing that the October ceasefire has failed to halt systematic violations. The organization urged international mediators to move beyond rhetoric and apply real, enforceable pressure on Israel to stop its actions.
Speaking to Palestine Online on Thursday, Euro-Med Monitor President Dr. Ramy Abdu voiced grave alarm over what he described as a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian emergency. He said nearly two million Palestinians are now forced to survive in dilapidated tents, while much of the remaining population shelters in structurally unsafe homes on the verge of collapse. Israel’s sustained bombardment and widespread destruction, he noted, have rendered roughly 90 percent of Gaza’s buildings damaged or destroyed.
Dr. Abdu rejected any characterization of Gaza’s suffering as a post-war crisis, emphasizing that the genocide has continued uninterrupted. He stated that Israel is intentionally deploying siege, starvation, and the denial of shelter as instruments of genocide, deliberately engineering an environment that is unfit for human life to forcibly displace Palestinians.
Blocking Aid and Reconstruction by Design
He further explained that Israel’s ongoing prohibition on the entry of temporary housing units, construction materials, and essential medical supplies is not incidental, but part of a calculated policy to obstruct relief, recovery, and survival. These actions, Abdu said, constitute blatant violations of international law, especially as Gaza’s displaced population faces extreme weather and winter storms with no adequate protection.
According to Abdu, the Israeli army’s continued killings, home demolitions, and destruction across Gaza amount to a practical continuation of genocide that has now spanned more than two years. He stressed that Israel’s conduct reflects open contempt for the ceasefire agreement, instead relying on new tools and methods to achieve the same outcome: mass suffering, social collapse, and the prevention of any return to normal life.
Civilians Bear the Full Weight of the Crimes
The Euro-Med Monitor has documented these violations extensively, Abdu said, noting that civilians remain the primary victims. Palestinians have endured mass killings, severe bodily harm, starvation, prolonged siege, and the systematic eradication of livelihoods, with no segment of society spared from the consequences.
Abdu also warned that Israel is waging one of the largest misinformation campaigns globally by falsely claiming that its aggression and genocidal actions have ended. Since the ceasefire came into effect on October 10, documented figures show that at least 390 Palestinians have been killed, more than 1,000 wounded, and hundreds of homes destroyed.
Mediators and International Community Under Scrutiny
Addressing the role of mediators, Abdu said states guaranteeing the ceasefire are legally and morally bound to restrain Israel and ensure full implementation of the agreement. He stressed that responsibility does not stop there, warning that continued international silence increasingly amounts to complicity in grave crimes.
Calls for Immediate and Effective Pressure
He called on mediators to exert urgent and tangible pressure to halt Israeli aggression, ensure the unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid in sufficient quantities, and prevent Israel from evading its obligations under international law and binding agreements.
Despite the ceasefire, Israel continues to carry out killings and demolitions throughout Gaza, while severely restricting humanitarian assistance and banning construction materials and emergency shelter supplies such as temporary caravans. More than 1.5 million displaced Palestinians living in fragile tents now face a deepening humanitarian catastrophe with no viable alternatives.
Storm Biron Exposes the Scale of Vulnerability
Following the recent polar storm “Biron,” official data from Gaza revealed that more than 53,000 tents were partially or completely flooded or destroyed. Plastic coverings and insulation materials were ruined, mattresses and blankets lost, cooking equipment damaged, and several emergency shelters collapsed across displacement sites.
A Genocide That Has Shifted Form, Not Ended
As winter storms collide with Israel’s deliberate policies of siege and deprivation, Gaza’s humanitarian disaster continues to intensify. The reality on the ground, the Euro-Med Monitor warned, makes clear that the genocide has not ended but has merely changed form. Without decisive international intervention and genuine pressure on Israel to lift restrictions, allow reconstruction, and comply with international law, Palestinian suffering will only deepen—cementing a future defined by forced displacement, despair, and systematic destruction.
